Stockholm Toy Museum has Northern Europe's largest collection of toys and comics. You'll find masses of nostalgic toys here, as well as exciting play areas and educational activities for both young and old. The museum brings childhood joy and nostalgia together, where untouched collector's items co-exist with beloved favourite gadgets in underground tunnels on Skeppsholmen.
In the 2,500 square metre museum, the corridors wind deep under the rocks on the inner-city island of Skeppsholmen, with over 40,000 toys, comic books and other artefacts. With the help of light, sound, set designers and artists, they almost come to life.
The museum invites you to both play and learn with interactive exhibitions that are meant to be touched and explored. There's something for everyone here: parents and grandparents can discover their favourite toys from the past, while children and grandchildren find play areas and many of the toys they themselves recognise. There are several areas around the museum where the youngest visitors can play. They can, for example, fry pancakes and meatballs in Bamse's grandmother's kitchen, jump hobby horses, play pinball or borrow books and games in the café.
The cave where the exhibition is located was built in the late 1930s and early 1940s as a military shelter. Since then, the premises have been used as, among other things, a torpedo workshop and a communications centre, and now as a museum. You can either discover the museum on your own or book guided tours for larger groups.
