Beautiful gardens
Visby, with its protected location inside its city walls, has many plants that you won't find anywhere else in Sweden. You can admire them, and many more, in the Botanical Garden alongside the beach, north of Almedalen. Relax in the shade of some of the unusual trees, stroll to the ruins of St. Olof and get to know the medicinal plants. The society that runs the gardens also offers a extensive programme including concerts, medicinal plants, and bat safaris.

Suit up and drive

Activities in northern Gotland
"Gotland's most beautiful cinema"
This cinema shows a mix of films ranging from old classics to the latest from SF Studios and Hollywood. In addition to movies, visitors can also enjoy live opera concerts and rock concerts. Slitebio is run by a non-profit organisation that aims to enhance the cultural life in the area.

Learn pottery
Fårö island is just north of Gotland, accessible by regular car ferry. Visit Fårö Pottery, a place that welcomes anyone who wants to learn about pottery and enjoy the calm and peaceful surroundings for a while. Beautiful bathing spot
Thousands of bathers gather every summer in an old limestone quarry in northern Gotland to splash about in the turquoise, crystal-clear water. The bathing spot is aptly named – the Blue Lagoon – and is best accessed by car. It takes about 50 minutes to drive there from Visby.

Jump, play and bounce

Look for the fortress
Tingstäde lake is a shallow lake, only 1.7 metres deep at its deepest point, making it an excellent spot for those who want to try sea kayaking or take the family out on the water. Rent a kayak and explore the lake, which intriguingly has the remains of a large wooden fortress from the 1130s at the bottom. Thanks to the shallow water, you can see the old fortress with the naked eye.

Blow glass

The East Coast trail
Hike along the coast
Along the eastern coast, from Anga meadow in the north to Herta fishing village in the south, you can hike alongside vast sandy beaches, picturesque fishing villages, and cliffs with wide panoramas. This particular trail is 86 kilometres long, but there are more to choose from around the island, such as the 60km-long Pilgrimage trail St. Olav's Way and the 30km-long Klint Coast trail.

On the eastern coast, you'll find Katthammarsvik and nearby Ala Gård. Visiting a flea market on Gotland if pretty much obligatory. This one, near Stånga in southern Gotland, stocks a generous range of items. You can find design items, craftsmanship, and pre-loved odds and ends. The stock is continuously replenished, and the selection is frequently updated.

Hammargage Hällar
Rauks
If you're visiting Gotland you must see the island's famous rauks - limestone seastacks - which are found all over Gotland. This one, Hammargage Hällar, can be found in the south and it's a beautiful spot where you can take a swim. Other places to see raukar include Gamla Hamn, Digerhuvud, Langhammar and Folhammar.

Cycling
Explore the island on wheels
Cycling is the perfect way to see this relatively flat island. The southern coastal road, between Kettelviken and Hoburgen, is a beautiful cycling route with the wow factor. An activity suitable for families with small children, groups of friends and romantic couples.

Activities in west Gotland
An activity-filled oasis
You'll find this magical oasis on Tofta beach. Under the sun's rays, or the orange light of the sunset, you can not only eat and drink but also enjoy a variety of experiences. Swim, sauna, paddle, yoga, skate, get a massage or surf. A place that welcomes groups of friends and families as well as couples. Gotland's leading auction company, Smågårde Auktioner, can be found not too far from Visby, in Tofta. Attend an auction and perhaps, if you're lucky, find something really nice. A mixed selection of furniture and other objects from Gotlandic homes and businesses is sold on site.

The Karlsö islands
